Contemporary
While working from a strong technical base, the goal of contemporary movement in this class is to create versatility in the dancer by fusing genres and finding real forms of expression. Focuses are on finding/breaking alignments, non-traditional floor-work, musicality, performance qualities and strength/dynamics. The class begins with a technically based warmup that includes strength-building, alignment, and stretching exercises, and culminates in a short choreography that incorporates movement from any number of different styles. BEHIND THE SCENES of a DANCE FILM
An introduction to tools which translates skill gained in dance education to the production of dance films. In this masterclass, participants will watch and discuss dance films from across the globe. Conversations will analyze films from a dancer’s lens, and then reverse engineer principles of cinema and filmmaking. Technique will be a topic – for dance, and for storytelling. New filmmakers will hear about tools to explore, gear to try and dance film pre-production practices that genuinely work. Lastly, participants will hear from a festival director, Katie Bruce, and have questions answered. Katie will share a little wisdom about getting your work into film festivals, and what that even means. (Facilitator: Katie Bruce)
